
Pigs Drop Series Opener to PawSox, 10-2

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (62-76) dropped the series opener to the Pawtucket Red Sox (55-83) by a score of 10-2 on Tuesday night at McCoy Stadium.
Tyler Pastornicky's solo shot in the top of the first off of PawSox starter Rich Hill gave the Pigs a 1-0 lead. The home run was Pastornicky's (2-4, HR, RBI, R) first with Lehigh Valley.
A five-run second gave the Red Sox a 5-1 lead as Deven Marrero delivered a two-run double, Garin Cecchini hit a solo shot off of Pigs starter Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez while Luis Martinez and Marco Hernandez each came through with RBI singles. Four of the five runs in the inning came with two outs.
Russ Canzler's solo shot in the top of the fourth brought the IronPigs within 5-2. It was Canzler's (1-4, HR, RBI, R) ninth home run of the year.
Hill (5-3) gave up two runs on four hits while walking two and fanning nine in 7.0 IP.
Gonzalez (0-1) allowed five runs on six hits to go along with a walk and two strikeouts in three innings of work.
Pawtucket opened up a 9-2 lead with four runs in the fourth. Hernandez brought home a pair with a two-run triple and scored on a throwing error charged to Pigs SS Chase d'Arnaud while Chris Marrero delivered a solo blast off of IronPigs RHP Jason Berken (1.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB).
The PawSox extended the lead to 10-2 with a run in the sixth as Cecchini plated a run via an RBI single. The run was charged to Lehigh Valley LHP Joey DeNato (2.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 3 K).
DeNato was making his first career appearance above Single-A.
RHP Seth Rosin (1.0 IP, K) and LHP Kenny Roberts (1.0 IP, H, K) each tossed a scoreless inning in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
The series wraps up on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. as RHP Severino Gonzalez (2-6, 5.02) takes the hill for the Pigs against PawSox RHP William Cuevas (2-2, 2.79).
