Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (53-65) dropped their second straight to the Syracuse Chiefs (52-67) on Wednesday night, this one by a score of 9-5 at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse.
Syracuse has now won nine in a row.
The Pigs took a 1-0 lead with a run in the third as Logan Moore (3-4, 2B, R) led off with a ground-rule double, moved to third on a fly out and later scored on Chase d'Arnaud's (2-5, RBI) RBI single.
Syracuse grabbed the lead at 2-1 with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the same frame. Caleb Ramsey drew a leadoff walk, moved to third on a single and scored on a sac bunt by Chiefs starter Paolo Espino to tie things at one. Emmanuel Burriss came through with an RBI single later in the inning to give the Chiefs the lead.
Tyler Pastornicky (4-5, 2 2B, 2 R) led off the top of the fourth for the IronPigs with a single, moved to second on a walk, went to third when Aaron Altherr grounded into a 6-3 double play and scored on Kelly Dugan's two-out, RBI single to tie things at two apiece.
Syracuse regained the lead at 7-2 with a five-run fourth as Dan Butler drove home a pair with a two-run double and later scored on Burriss' RBI double, while Jason Martinson also came through with a two-run double of his own.
Pigs starter Anthony Vasquez (7-5) gave up all seven runs on eight hits while walking three and fanning a pair over 3.2 IP.
Brian Bogusevic's three-run shot in the top of the fifth brought the IronPigs within 7-5. It was Bogusevic's ninth home run of the season.
Espino (5-5) allowed five runs on nine hits to go along with a walk and two strikeouts in five innings of work.
RHP P.J. Walters (3.0 IP, 4 H, 4 K) and LHP Matt Grace (1.0 IP, H) tossed the final four innings in relief of Espino.
RBI singles from Kevin Keyes and Matt Skole in the home half of the sixth extended the Chiefs' lead to 9-5. Both runs in the inning were unearned after an error by Pastornicky at second base came with one out.
RHP Jason Berken (1.1 IP, BB, 2 K), RHP Colton Murray (1.0 IP, H, K) and RHP Seth Rosin (1.0 IP, H, BB, 2 K) all had scoreless outings in relief for the IronPigs.
The series wraps up on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. as LHP Jesse Biddle (2-2, 4.88) will be on the bump for the IronPigs against Syracuse LHP Richard Bleier (3-1, 2.78).
