DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls capitalized on poor late-inning pitching and defense from the Norfolk Tides Wednesday night, and came back from an early three-run deficit for a 4-3 victory at the DBAP.

Trailing 3-1 entering the bottom of the eighth inning, the Bulls (57-61) loaded the bases with two outs behind a walk to Joey Rickard, an error on a Jake Elmore grounder and a walk to Ryan Brett. Pinch-hitter Taylor Motter then drew a bases-loaded walk to make it a one-run game, before Luke Maile delivered a two-run, go-ahead single to centerfield to put Durham in front 4-3. In the top of the ninth the Tides put runners on first and second, but could do no more as the Bulls snapped a two-game losing skid.

Norfolk (67-50) jumped out to a 2-0 lead just four batters into the game, as Christian Walker drilled a two-run homer over the Blue Monster. In the third the visitors made it a three-run game, as Henry Urrutia hit a solo dinger into the rightfield seats.

Durham scored its first run in the sixth, as Nick Franklin walked, Rickard was hit by a pitch and Elmore drew a walk. With the bases loaded and two outs, Brett tapped a grounder to the left of the pitcher's mound for a run-scoring infield single.

Miller (4-3) earned the victory, tallying the final out in the eighth inning before holding the Tides scoreless in the ninth. He combined with Jose Dominguez and CJ Riefenhauser for 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, after southpaw Matt Moore allowed three runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings. Richard Rodriguez (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing three unearned runs in the eighth inning.

Durham managed just four hits in the victory, but took advantage of a season-high nine walks.

The series concludes Thursday night at the DBAP, when RHP Matt Andriese (3-2, 2.25) gets the start for Durham opposite RHP Terry Doyle (1-1, 4.05) for Norfolk. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
