SIOUX CITY -- The Sioux Falls Pheasants lost twice on Monday night to the Sioux City Explorers, dropping a 15-0 completion of a suspended game and an 8-6 seven-inning nightcap.

Sioux City added eight more runs in the game, highlighted by a five-run eighth inning in which the X's brought 10 batters to the plate.

In the nightcap, the Pheasants fell behind quickly on Adrian Martinez's RBI fielder's choice in the second inning. Two more plated in the third on Michael Lang's run-scoring triple and a throwing error by Al Quintana.

Sioux City added a tally in the fourth and then surged to an 8-0 lead with a four-run, two-out rally in the fifth. Martinez singled home two runs and Yusuke Inoguchi followed with a pinch-hit, two-run double.

Pheasants starter and newcomer Dusty Gober (0-1) allowed all eight runs in his Sioux Falls debut and suffered the loss. He pitched 4 2/3 innings, yielding 11 hits and striking out three.

The Pheasants rallied back with Jared Bolden's solo home run in the sixth. In the seventh, the Pheasants plated five runs thanks in part to two Sioux City errors and Cristian Guerrero's three-run double. It brought a tying run to the plate, but Sioux City closer Chris Bodishbaugh struck out Mark Shorey to end the threat and earn his fourth save of the season.

Explorers starter Ty Marotz (1-0) pitched 6 2/3 inning for the Explorers, winning his first start of the season. He allowed six runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out four.

Game two of the three-game, home-and-away series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, June 12 at Lewis and Clark Park. The game will be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN and www.kwsn.com.
