St. Paul Saints News Release
ST PAUL, MN (June 11, 2012) - Between a mix of players having their contracts purchased and injuries the St. Paul Saints are searching for arms. They found one not too far from where they play signing right-handed pitcher Dustin Klabunde out of the University of Minnesota.
The 23-year-old Klabunde had a solid season for the Gophers in 2012 going 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA and one save in 16 appearances (one start). In 32.0 innings pitched he walked six and struck out 22 while opponents hit .248 against him.
Klabunde had shoulder surgery in 2009 and pitched in just five games in 2011. He graduated from McLeaod High School and was a two-time All-State, All-Area and three-time All-Conference honoree and was named the team's MVP twice. Klabunde was a multi-sport athlete and was named a two-time Conference Player of the Year, a three-time All-Conference selection and the team's three-time MVP in basketball along with an All-Conference selection in football his senior season.
In order to make room for Klabunde the Saints places right-handed pitcher Alberto Rolon on the disabled list retroactive to June 8. The Saints roster now stands at 22, 10 pitchers and 12 position players.
