Wingnuts Sweep T-Bones with Eight-Run Sixth

KANSAS CITY, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts beat the Kansas City T-Bones 11-6 at Community America Ballpark on Sunday evening.

Already leading 2-0 in the top of the sixth, the Wingnuts broke the game open with an eight-run outburst. David Peralta led off with a solo home run to right-center. Two batters later, Taylor Freeman beat out a groundball at first for an infield single. Freeman stole second base and then scored on a two-out, RBI single down the left field line from Ryan Khoury. An error and a walk loaded the bases for Wichita, setting up C.J. Ziegler's two-run single down the left field line that made it 6-0. After Mitch Einertson drove in Wichita's seventh run with a line drive single to center, Peralta slugged a three-run home run over the right field wall.

Ray Sadler hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 10-4 before Wingnuts' starter Josh Lowey closed out the inning. Lowey earned his fourth win of the year, allowing four earned runs on five hits in six innings of work. Lowey walked three, struck out four, and has won 15 consecutive decisions dating back to last year.

Mike Conroy hit a sacrifice fly to center in the top of the ninth for the Wingnuts' final run. Kala Ka'aihue hit a two-run homer in the bottom half for Kansas City.

Wichita broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second. With two outs and no one on base, Jake Kahaulelio singled up the middle, and took second base when Rodriguez reached on an error by third baseman Devin Goodwin. On an 0-2 pitch, Ziegler lined a single to right to score Kahaulelio. Brandon Jones then booted the ball in right field which allowed Rodriguez to score from first. The base hit extended Ziegler's hitting streak to 17 games.

Khoury and Kahaulelio each had three hits. Khoury has reached base in 18 straight games. Eight of the Wingnuts' starters had at least one base hit. Wichita hit eight home runs in the three-game series.

Devin Anderson started and took the loss for Kansas City. Anderson allowed seven runs, two earned, on nine hits. Anderson walked two and struck out five.

Jeff Nadeau worked two scoreless innings for the Wingnuts in the seventh and eighth.
