EL PASO, TX - The Amarillo Sox trailed early to the El Paso Diablos, but a big game from Matt Tucker and a five-run seventh inning gave the Sox an 10-5 win on Monday night at Cohen Stadium.

Sox starter Ryan Mitchell (3-0) struggled early, but rebounded late for the win. Diablos starter Reymond Cruz (1-2) dominated early, but allowed the Sox to get back into the game in the seventh.

El Paso took an early lead in the first as Nelson Teilon hit an RBI single, while they score twice more in the second on an RBI single from JJ Muse and an RBI fielder's choice by Maikol Gonzalez for a 3-0 lead.

Amarillo got on the board in the fourth as Jason White tripled and scored on a Tucker RBI single. The Diablos responded with an RBI double from Gonzalez for a 4-1 El Paso lead.

The Sox continued to chip away at the lead in the fifth inning as Van Pope singled, stole second and scored on a Harrison Kain RBI single for a two-run deficit. The Diablos immediately responded with a solo homerun from Brian Joynt to put the lead back to three at 5-2.

It looked like El Paso was going to get back on the board in the sixth as Muse led off with a triple. The infield moved in and coaxed a Derrick Pyles groundout that kept Muse at third. Mitchell struck out Gonzalez for the second out and got a Teilon groundout to get out of the inning and keep the deficit at three.

Amarillo turned things around in the seventh. Pope led off with a single and scored on a Chuck Lofgren RBI double. Garrett Rau walked and Kain was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. White followed and grounded to second to retire Kain, but White avoided the double play while Lofgren scored to tie the game.

Tucker followed with a two-RBI double to score Rau and White to give Amarillo the lead. Opitz followed with a triple to score Tucker for an 8-5 Sox lead.

The Amarillo bullpen took care of the Diablos from there, as Trent Lare and Wes Littleton pitched hitless innings in the seventh and eighth. Jake Opitz added a two-run homer in the ninth while Chase Johnson finished off El Paso in the ninth to preserve the 10-5 win.

With the win, the Sox improve to 14-10 while the Diablos fall to 5-19. Tuesday, Amarillo will take on El Paso for the second game of the three-game set at 8:05pm. The game can be heard by visiting www.diablos.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
