GARY, IN- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 6-0 the Gary SouthShore RailCats at U.S. Steel Yard on Monday night.
RailCats' starter Morgan Coombs threw six and two-thirds shutout innings to earn the win. Coombs was perfect over the first five and two-thirds before Mike Conroy doubled off the left-center field wall.
In the bottom of the second, Brian Kolb singled to center with two outs, stole second base, and scored on Sean Smith's groundball single through the right side to give the RailCats a 1-0 lead against Wingnuts' starter Jose Perez.
With runners on second and third and one out in the second, Craig Maddox hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Adam Klein. Mike Rohde followed with an RBI single up the middle to make it 3-0 in favor of Gary SouthShore.
Mike Massaro's sacrifice fly in the fourth drove in the RailCats' fourth run, while Kyle Haines doubled home Rohde from first base in the bottom of the fifth.
Perez left the game in the bottom of the sixth due to an apparent injury. Perez allowed five earned runs on 10 hits in five and one-third innings in the loss. Perez walked two and struck out one.
Nick Walters, Jared Simon, and Edgar Martinez combined to not allow an earned run in two and two-thirds relief innings.
The RailCats scored an unearned run against Simon in the bottom of the seventh.
C.J. Ziegler's 17-game hitting streak came to an end. Ryan Khoury walked in the top of the sixth and has reached base in 19 consecutive games. The loss was the Wingnuts first road loss of the season.
