El Paso Diablos News Release
EL PASO, TX- The visiting Grand Prairie Air Hogs rallied for four runs in the top of the eighth inning at Cohen Stadium to erase a late two-run Diablos lead and give the Air Hogs a split of the four game series.
The Diablos had erased an early two-run deficit of their own and led 7-5 heading into the final two innings, but El Paso's bullpen could not secure starter Freddy Flores' first win of 2012 as the Diablos fell in new manager Tim Johnson's third game at the helm.
Grand Prairie jumped out to an early advantage on an RBI single by Greg Porter in the first inning and extended the lead when Andres Rodriguez followed suit two innings later. The Diablos offense, which recorded 11 hits on the evening, began the see-saw trend in the fourth with a three-run frame to take the lead. Jonathan Cisneros' two-run double tied the game, and Patrick Arlis followed with a run-scoring single to put El Paso ahead.
The Air Hogs wasted no time retaking the lead in the fifth, as Andres Rodriguez lined his fourth home run of the year over the left field wall with Diablo-killer Keanon Simon on base to put Grand Prairie ahead 4-3.
El Paso returned the favor in the bottom half, as Nelson Teilon's single to right scored two runs and put El Paso ahead 5-4. The Diablos would add one run to the lead in the sixth before the two teams exchanged runs in the seventh.
With Flores out of the game in the eighth and the Diablos up 7-5, reliever Kyle Cremers (0-1) loaded the bases with nobody out before giving way to Reyes Dorado. Dorado got one out, but Simon came up with one out and crushed a three-run triple to left-center, putting the Air Hogs ahead to stay.
Grand Prairie would add one insurance run on an RBI single from Bryan Myrow before relievers Jakob Cunningham and Justin Dowdy finished off the game with a scoreless inning apiece. Dowdy's frame earned him his third save of 2012.
Despite walking two batters and giving up a run in his only inning of work, Griffin Bailey (1-3) earned his first win in four decisions.
The Diablos will remain home to take on the South Division leading Amarillo Sox who arrive in El Paso on Monday for a three-game series. Game one is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. (MST) start with right-hander Reymond Cruz on the hill for the Diablos.
