Laredo Lemurs News Release
Laredo, TX - The Laredo Lemurs (10-13) threaten in the top of the seventh but come up short as they lose the first game of a double header 2-1.
The Lemurs started off the bottom of the seventh down 2-0 to the Grand Prairie Airhogs (13-10) with Ernie Banks Jr. leading off with a single. Palmer Karr Jr. followed with a single to put runners at first and second. Brian Peterson would try to lay down a bunt and moved to the count to 0-2, he squared for the third attempt and got the ball down. Third baseman Greg Porter picked up the bunt and threw to second, but Yasutsugu Nishimoto's foot was not on the bag and Karr was safe to load the bases. That brought Airhogs manager Ricky VanAsselberg out of the dugout to grab the ball from starting pitcher Nick DeBarr replacing him with Justin Dowdy.
Dowdy got Philip Incaviglia to stikeout, to bring Jimmy Mojica to the plate. Mojica walked with the bases loaded to bring Ernie Banks Jr. home from third and bring the score to 2-1 Airhogs. That would bring Anthony Scelfo to the plate with one out and the bases loaded. Scelfo would rip the first pitch he saw right to the second baseman Bryan Frichter who caught the ball and went over to tag second base for the easy double play to end the game.
Lemurs starting pitcher Manny Ayala pitched well, but took his first loss of the season, after throwing five complete, giving up one run and striking out four.
Airhogs starting pitcher Nick DeBarr stayed perfect against the Lemurs throwing six, giving up one run, while striking out five. DeBarr is 3-0 against the Lemurs this year and is 5-0 on the season.
The Laredo Lemurs are home to take on the El Paso Diablos on June 14th at Uni-Trade Stadium. You can get tickets at the Laredo Lemurs box office, online at www.laredolemurs.com, or by phone at 956- 7LEMURS. All games at Uni-Trade Stadium are set for 7:30pm.
