Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
SIOUX FALLS - The Sioux Falls Pheasants signed a seasoned arm in Dusty Gober on Monday, and the right-hander will start tonight in the second game of a doubleheader against the Sioux City Explorers.
The Pheasants also placed right-handed reliever Tom Heithoff on the seven-day disabled list, retroactive to June 9.
Gober, 30, comes off a solid season with the now-defunct Calgary Vipers. He was 7-3 with a 4.68 ERA in 16 starts. In 84 2/3 innings pitched, he struck out 47 and walked 42. In 2010, Gober was 10-1 with a 4.78 ERA in 22 games.
A native of Long Beach, Calif., Gober began his professional career in his hometown with the Long Beach Armada of the former independent Golden League. Gober reunites with former Calgary teammates Jonny Kaplan, Mark Michael and Al Quintana.
Gober pitched collegiately at Cal State-Dominguez Hills and Compton Community College, and was undrafted.
