Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release
LAREDO, TX - The Amarillo Sox offense struggled against Laredo Lemurs pitchers and Amarillo pitching didn't fair much better as the Sox lost 8-2 on Sunday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
Sox starter Jack Spradlin (2-2) got the loss, allowing four runs off six hits in five and a third innings. Laredo starter Matt Way (2-2) shut down Amarillo batters, allowing just two hits and no runs in six innings of work.
The Lemurs got on the board in the fourth inning. Javier Brito led off with a double and scored on a John Allen RBI single. After Allen advanced to second on the throw home and third on a groundout, Ernie Banks Jr. singled to score Allen for a 2-0 Laredo lead.
Laredo added to the lead in the sixth as Brito singled and scored on a Stephen Pearson RBI triple. He would later score on a wild pitch for a 4-0 Lemurs advantage.
The Sox cut the deficit in half in the seventh. Alberto Espinosa was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and went to second on a single from Adam Buschini. Harrison Kain singled to load the bases, while Jason White followed with a single to score Espinosa and Buschini for a 4-2 score.
Laredo responded with four runs off five hits and two errors in the eighth inning for a six-run lead.
The Sox couldn't get on the board in the ninth to fall by a score of 8-2.
With the win, the Sox fall to 13-10 while the Lemurs improve to 10-12. Monday, Amarillo will travel to El Paso to take on the Diablos for the opening game of the three-game set at 8:05pm. The game can be heard by visiting www.laredolemurs.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
