Penguins To Crown Hot Dog Royalty This Friday
February 3, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, PA - You've seen Joey Chestnut chow down on dogs. You've witnessed Takeru Kobayashi woof down weiners.
But Friday night, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins fans will bear witness to a new face in the world of competitive eating - Josh 'The Mangler' McCorkle.
McCorkle (5'11", 190 pounds), an account executive in the Penguins front office, is throwing out a challenge to all comers this Friday, when the Penguins host the San Antonio Rampage on Dollar Hot Dog Night, courtesy of SMG and Aramark.
During the first intermission, 'The Mangler' and nine lucky fans will face off in a hot dog eating contest at center ice. The first person to finish 10 hot dogs and buns - or the person who eats the most in three minutes - will be declared the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Weiner King or Queen, and will receive a $100 gift certificate to a local eating establishment to be determined.
The first nine fans, ages 18 and over, to sign up at the Penguins Fan Assistance Booth on Friday will be entered into the contest, and have a shot at immortality (or at least a shot at indigestion).
Friday's game is also the third Penguins Game-Worn Jersey Card Night, sponsored by Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep. The first 5,000 fans attending the game will receive a card featuring one of six players (Dustin Jeffrey, Mark Letestu, Jon D'Aversa, Ben Lovejoy, T. J. Kemp or John Curry*), with a piece of that player's jersey from opening night included in the card.
Tickets for Friday's game against the Rampage are available at the Wachovia Arena Box Office, at all local TicketMaster locations, by phone at 570-693-4100 or on line at www.ticketmaster.com.
