Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, CA -The Sacramento River Cats (24-27) fell to the Albuquerque Isotopes (27-24) by a final score of 11-2 on Sunday evening at Raley Field. Hunter Pence was two-for-four and the River Cats collected six extra-base hits, but could only manage two runs in the defeat.
In the third, Steven Duggar ripped his first triple of the season to right field and scored on yet another double by Austin Slater. He now has 18 doubles this season to regain sole possession of second place in the PCL in that category. Pence had a single and his fourth double with the River Cats to improve his average to .326 during his rehab assignment.
Left-handed pitcher Matt Gage allowed runs in each of the first three innings, but only two of them were earned thanks to his own fielding error. He struck out two batters and walked two in four innings. The bullpen let things get away late, allowing seven runs across the final three frames.
The River Cats are back in action on Monday for a Memorial Day matinee in the fourth game of this five-game series. Right-hander Dereck Rodriguez (4-1, 3.40) gets the start for Sacramento and Albuquerque will counter with lefty David Holmberg (2-4, 7.36). First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. Catch all of the action live online at rivercats.com, on the MiLB First Pitch app, and on the air on Money 105.5 FM beginning at 7:00 p.m. (PT).
Additional Notes
- John Polonius accounted for one of team's five doubles when he smashed a line drive to right field in the eighth inning. That was also his first RBI of the season.
- The River Cats were 1-for-14 on Sunday evening with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. The most runners the River Cats have left on base this season is 15 on April 29.
