May 28, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Ryan Helsley allowed one unearned run in 7.0 innings, striking out 10 and scattering three hits, and Patrick Wisdom moved his hitting streak to 13 games in a 2-1 Memphis Redbirds (32-20) win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Brewers).
The Redbirds have now won nine of their last 11 games. After back-to-back shutout wins over the Sky Sox the last two nights, Memphis has given up just one run in the last 27 innings of play.
Helsley gave up a run in the top of the first inning, but it was unearned after the runner reached on a passed ball after a strikeout. He gave up just three baserunners after that, and he struck out at least one batter every inning except the seventh. In three starts with Memphis this season, Helsley has worked 7.0 innings each time and struck out at least nine. He has 28 strikeouts in 21.0 innings with the Redbirds this season.
After strikeouts in his first three at-bats, Patrick Wisdom extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a single in the seventh. Alex Mejia followed with a base knock that scored Randy Arozarena and broke a 1-1 deadlock.
After Helsley left the game, Andrew Morales pitched the eighth inning and stranded two runners on base. Preston Guilmet pitched the ninth inning and worked around a two-out error to pick up his 10th save of the season.
Memphis tied the game in the bottom of the first when Rangel Ravelo walked, moved to second on a Mejia single, and scored on a Luke Voit single.
Adolis Garcia was 2-for-3 and stole two bases on the day. Mejia finished with three hits.
Memphis and Colorado Springs finish their five-game series, and Memphis' nine-game homestand, tomorrow afternoon at 12:05. After that, the Redbirds head to New Orleans for five games before returning home on Tuesday, June 5.
