Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Omaha shortstop Humberto Arteaga sustained his torrid pace at the plate with two more hits, however Round Rock recorded 17 hits, including three each from right fielder Scott Heineman , third baseman Andy Ibanez and shortstop Nick Noonan , and starting pitcher Yovanni Gallardo struck out nine in the Express' 8-3 triumph to snap the Storm Chasers' win streak at five on Sunday evening at Werner Park.
Omaha answered Round Rock's three early tallies with a three-spot of their own in the last of the second. RF Logan Moon dropped an RBI single and 3B Manny Olloque smashed a run-scoring two-bagger to left-center prior to CF Billy Burns ' RBI groundout to even the contest at 3-3. The Express immediately countered the Storm Chasers, however, with four more scores in the third to push back ahead 7-3 before plating a late insurance run.
Six of the Express' nine hitters in the batting order recorded multi-hit efforts, including three apiece from Heineman (3-5, R, 2 RBI), Ibanez (3-5, R) and Noonan (3-5, R, 2B, RBI). Arteaga (2-3) was the only batter from his side to record two or more hits, continuing his hot tear at the plate. Over his last seven games, the infielder has posted a knock in 16 of his last 26 at-bats, including six matchups with two or more hits.
Gallardo (6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 9 K) earned the win with a quality outing, with reliever Connor Sadzeck (1.0 IP, BB, 2 K), Brandon Mann (1.0 IP, H, BB, K) and Tayler Scott (1.0 IP, K) combining for the final three scoreless innings. The trio at one point combined to retire 17 of 19 Storm Chasers batters faced, including each of the final eight Gallardo faced. Omaha starter Heath Fillmyer (5.0 IP, 12 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) suffered the defeat to fall to 3-4, while relievers Mike Broadway (1.0 IP, 2 H) and Brandon Maurer (1.0 IP, H, K) each worked a scoreless inning.
The two teams continue their five-game set with a Memorial Day Monday matinee at 12:05pm at Werner Park. Omaha is expected to send RHP Scott Barlow (1-1, 3.94) to the hill, with Round Rock slated to give the nod to RHP Tyler Wagner (0-2, 3.96).
Tickets are still available for that game and all Storm Chasers contests throughout the 2018 season, and may be purchased at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets as well as by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100.
