Isotopes Secure First Ever Series Win in Sacramento

May 28, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Isotopes (28-24) outlasted the Sacramento River Cats (24-28) on Memorial Day for a 4-2 victory, securing their first ever series win at Raley Field in their 16-year history. Albuquerque had previously lost eight series and split six in Sacramento before Monday's series-clinching victory.

The Isotopes pitching staff held the River Cats to two runs for the fourth consecutive game. Sacramento scored one in the first inning, but Albuquerque starter Sam Howard responded by shutting out the River Cats for the next four frames. Howard yielded seven hits and one walk in his first outing since coming off the disabled list. The win was his third of the year.

Reliever Nelson Gonzalez tossed 3.0 scoreless innings while compiling four strikeouts. Scott McGough closed out the victory in the ninth with his first save.

Albuquerque and Sacramento were tied 1-1 heading in to the sixth inning before the Isotopes offense struck for three runs to take the lead for good. Tom Murphy and Anthony Phillips both collected RBI singles in the inning.

The Isotopes and River Cats close out their five-game series Tuesday afternoon with right-hander Yency Almonte taking the hill for Albuquerque. The series finale will get underway at 1:05 p.m.?
