Round Rock Express News Release
PAPILLION, Nebraska - After dropping the first two games of the series, the Round Rock Express (21-30) rebounded to pick up an 8-3 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers (21-29) on Sunday night at Werner Park. Six E-Train batters recorded multi-hit performances in the convincing victory.
Round Rock starter RHP Yovani Gallardo (1-1, 4.54) shined in the win, limiting Omaha to three runs on six hits while striking out nine without walking a batter in 6.0 innings. Omaha starter RHP Heath Fillmyer (3-4, 5.58) suffered the loss after giving up seven runs on 12 hits in 5.0 innings of work.
The E-Train jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as RF Scott Heineman led off the contest with a single prior to a booming two-run homer off the bat of 1B Tommy Joseph. In the second, SS Nick Noonan tallied a leadoff double, then Heineman singled to bump the gap to 3-0.
Omaha responded in the bottom of the frame thanks to three straight singles by LF Paolo Orlando, SS Humberto Artaega and RF Logan Moon, the latest of which put the Storm Chasers on the board. A two-run Manny Olloque double in the next at-bat leveled the contest at 3-3.
Round Rock responded with a big inning of their own in the fourth. 3B Andy Ibanez sparked the rally with a one-out single. Following a Cameron Rupp walk, DH Tony Sanchez singled home Ibanez to put the Express back on top. After a Noonan groundout scored another run, rehabbing Texas Rangers CF Carlos Tocci singled to score Sanchez, padding the lead to 6-3. The final blow of the inning came in the form of an RBI single by Heineman.
The E-Train tacked on one last run in the seventh as Rupp collected a leadoff walk off LHP Richard Lovelady. Following singles by Sanchez and Noonan that loaded the bases, Tocci grounded out to score another run.
E-Train relievers RHP Connor Sadzeck, LHP Brandon Mann and RHP Tayler Scott combined to allow just one hit and two walks in the final three innings to preserve the 8-3 victory.
Round Rock and Omaha continue their series on Monday afternoon. Express RHP Tyler Wagner (0-2, 3.96) is scheduled to face Storm Chasers RHP Scott Barlow (1-1, 3.94). First pitch at Werner Park is set for 12:05 p.m.
