Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Nashville, Tenn. - Steve Lombardozzi hit a game-winning single the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Nashville Sounds a 3-2 walk-off win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers Monday afternoon at First Tennessee Park.

The Dodgers had a 2-0 lead through three-and-a-half innings, but were unable to score the rest of the day. After the Sounds scored twice without a hit in the bottom of the fourth inning, the game stayed tied until the bottom of the ninth inning.

Jake Smolinski led off with a single against C.C. Lee, who was then replaced by Adam Liberatore. On Liberatore's first pitch, he hit Beau Taylor, putting runners at first and second base. Sheldon Neuse then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third base.

After intentionally walking pinch hitter Josh Phegley to load the bases, Lombardozzi sent the first pitch he saw over the head of Jacob Scavuzzo in left field for the game-winning hit. It marked the fifth walk-off win of the season for the Sounds and fourth walk off loss of the season for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers (30-18) lost Monday despite outhitting the Sounds, 10-4, not allowing an extra-base hit and surrendering just one earned run. B.J. Boyd led off the bottom of the first inning with a single for the Sounds, but they did not tally another hit until there were two outs in the eighth inning.

For the first time in six games, the Dodgers were the ones to score first. Henry Ramos led off the second inning with a double and scored two batters later on a RBI single by Danny Espinosa to make it 1-0.

In the fourth, Kyle Garlick singled with one out and stole second base. Ramos followed with a bloop RBI single to left field, giving the Dodgers a two-run edge.

The Sounds (26-24) leveled the game in the fourth inning with no hits. After a back-to-back walks with one out to put runners at first and second, Taylor hit a grounder to first base. Tim Locastro fielded the ball and threw to second base, but his throw went into left field. The error scored one run and put runners at the corners with one out. Neuse then sent a broken bat flare to shallow right field that ended up being a forceout at second base, but still scored the tying run.

Over the final five innings, the Dodgers scattered four singles and only put two runners in scoring position. The Sounds pitching staff retired the final seven Dodgers to come to the plate.

Dodgers starting pitcher Daniel Corcino was excellent over a season-high six innings. He gave up just one hit - to the very first batter he faced - and both runs charged to him were unearned. Corcino issued four walks and finished with three strikeouts in his longest outing since Sept. 12, 2014 while with the Cincinnati Reds in a game at Milwaukee.

Bobby Wahl (3-0) retired the side in order in the ninth and earned the win. Lee (2-2) was scored upon for a third consecutive outing and took the loss.

The Dodgers and Sounds play the rubber match of the five-game series at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday. Live coverage begins 15 minutes before first pitch on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free iHeartRadio mobile app.
