Regina, Saskatchewan - With their Second Overall pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, the Regina Pats Hockey Club is pleased to select forward, Sam Steel from the Sherwood Park Flyers of the Alberta Bantam AAA League.

Steel led the Flyers in scoring this season, totaling 104 points (52G, 52A) in 31 games through the AMBHL season. The 5'10", 155 lbs forward took home some hardware as well this year being named the AMBHL North's Top Forward as well as the North's Most Sportsmanlike Player.

At the Alberta Cup in Strathmore, Steel suited up for Team Northeast and went on to claim the Cup for wins in back-to-back years. Steel led the tournament in scoring with 15 points (6G, 9A) in five games, tying him with Devin Setoguchi for third all-time at the event.

A native of Androssan, AB, Steel has some interesting connections to the Regina Pats. During a visit to Edmonton in the 2010-11 season, the Pats held a practice at a backyard rink his father built.

"We're extremely excited to bring a player with the caliber of skill that Sam Steel brings with his game," says Pats GM Chad Lang. "Our scouting staff identified Sam as a player we needed to focus on in this year's draft class and we were lucky enough to be able to select him with the second pick."

The Pats next selection will be in the second round, 28th overall.
