Pats Make a Splash on Draft Day

Calgary, Alberta - The Regina Pats created a stir early in the 2011 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft. It began with a trade with their biggest rivals, the Moose Jaw Warriors.

The Regina Pats sent their 1st round pick, 16th overall and their 4th round pick, 80th overall to the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for a pair of 2nd round picks (36th and 44th) as well as a 5th round pick, 106th overall.

From there, General Manager, Chad Lang and Head Scout, Todd Ripplinger were busy with 4 of the first 47 picks in the draft.

General Manager, Chad Lang on the trade, "Based on our evaluation, we identified prospects that we were comfortable to get if we flipped our first round pick for 2 additional picks in the 2nd round. Fortunately, the prospects we identified as 1st rounder's we were able to get in the 2nd round."

Lang on the overall draft, "We are very happy with our 2011 draft class. With 4 forwards, 4 defencemen and 2 goaltenders, it was the balance that we were looking for and I also like the fact that we were able to add size, speed and skill in all areas."

Head Scout, Todd Ripplinger, "With the direction of the new management, there's a mandate on size, speed and skill and I think we accomplished that with all of our picks."

The Pats drafted 10 picks overall, 4 forwards, 4 defencemen, and 2 goaltenders. 5 of the picks come from Alberta, 2 are from Manitoba, 2 are from the United States and 1 is from B.C.
