Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Calgary, AB - With the Edmonton Oil Kings first round selection (9th overall), in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft, the team selected defenceman Aaron Irving.

Irving, 6'0, 172 lbs, is an Edmonton native and plays with the provincial and AMBHL league champion South Side Athletic Club Southgate Lions. The 15 year old appeared in 33 games collecting 18 points (6G, 12A). He also skated in five games at the 2011 Alberta Cup where he had one goal and 10 PIM.

"As an organization we are very happy to have a chance to select Aaron, we like his ability to play an all around game," said Oil Kings Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel Randy Hansch. "He brings good size, moves very well and competes on all areas of the ice. Just overall a solid defenceman who can contribute."

A complete summary of all the Oil Kings picks will be available later this afternoon once the draft is complete.
