Prince Albert Raiders News Release

Prince Albert SK- The Prince Albert Raiders selected six forwards, three defencemen and one goalie at the 2011 WHL Bantam Entry Draft today in Calgary Alberta.

The Raiders headed into the draft with 12 selections but traded their 9th and 10th round picks to the Spokane Chiefs in exchange for the Chiefs 9th and 10th round selections in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft. Out of the 10 players chosen, four were from Saskatchewan including their first round, 8th overall pick, Reid Gardiner who was born in Prince Albert and played with the Humboldt Broncos in the Centre Four AA Bantam League. Another local player, Lance Yaremchuk of the Prince Albert Venice House Pirates was selected in the 6th round, 116th overall. He finished fourth in the Centre Four Hockey League in scoring, two spots back of Gardiner who finished second. Three of the 10 players are from Manitoba, two are from Alberta and one is from British Columbia.

"Overall we are extremely happy with the players we selected today" said Raiders Head Scout and Director of Player Personnel Dale Derkatch. "I think when you look at our selections we have covered all of our bases. We have top end scorers like Reid Gardiner, Lance Yaremchuk and Tim Vanstone, who all were all top scorers in their respective leagues and defenceman Taylor Fisher who was the top scorer in his AAA Bantam League. Some other guys have the work ethic and size. I think we ended with a good balance and we got a lot of hard working character players this year which is exciting for our organization. I'm extremely happy with all of the hard work my staff put in this past year and today is the day their efforts come to fruition."
