Tigers 2011 WHL Bantam Draft Selections Announced

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League Bantam Draft has returned to the Stampede City after a three-year absence. The draft returns to the Palomino Room of the BMO Center in Stampede Park after the last three years in Edmonton.

The Medicine Hat Tigers are proud to select Medicine Hat native Blake Penner with their first pick of the draft, 18th overall. Penner becomes the first Medicine Hat born player to be selected by the Tigers in the first round of the bantam draft.

Penner, 5' 10", 170 lbs played for the Notre Dame Hounds during the 2010-11 season collecting 42 goals and 26 assists for 68 points in 24 games.

"We really like what Blake will eventually bring to our organization," said Tigers' general manager Brad McEwen. "He is an excellent two-way player whom possesses very good skill and leadership qualities. We look forward to having Blake join our club in the future."

The Tigers selected four players from Alberta, three from Manitoba, two from BC and two from USA.
