Providence Bruins News Release

Bridgeport, CT. - The Providence Bruins fell to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Saturday night 2-1. Justin Florek scored for the P-Bruins, while Malcolm Subban stopped all 16 shots he faced in relief of Niklas Svedberg who made 14 saves.

Coming off the heels of a big victory Friday night over Portland, the P-Bruins started putting shots on net early and often. Sound Tigers goaltender Anders Nilsson stopped them all and his team responded when Mike Cornell placed a wrist shot perfectly under the crossbar to open the scoring at the 11:52 mark off a faceoff win from Matt Lowry. For Cornell it was his first goal of the season. Bridgeport continued the pressure and doubled their lead at the 15:45 mark as Alan Quine picked up the puck all alone in the slot and scored his third goal of the season. Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Matt Donovan assisted on the goal. Bridgeport left 2-0 going into the first intermission.

Subban relived Svedberg to start the second period and kept the Sound Tigers off the board in the period. Nilsson matched Subban's effort as neither team scored in the period and the Sound Tigers held onto the 2-0 lead going into the second intermission.

Once again goaltending and defense dominated the third period until the 19:47 mark, when with Subban pulled for the extra attacker, Florek scored his fifth goal of the season. Seth Griffith's original shot was stopped by Nilsson and Rob Flick corralled the rebound and passed it over to an open Florek for the easy one-timer. Bridgeport held on for the 2-1 victory.

Subban stopped all 16 shots he faced and Svedberg stopped 14 of 16 shots for the P-Bruins, while Nilsson made 24 saves for the Sound Tigers. Providence went 0-for-2 on the power play and was 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

Providence is back in action at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday at 7:05pm against the Springfield Falcons. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a key chain courtesy of New England Ambulance. For tickets to this game or any other P-Bruins home games visit www.providencebruins.com.
