Norfolk, Virginia - The Springfield Falcons (18-4-1-2) defeated the Norfolk Admirals by the final score of 5-2 Saturday night at Scope Arena, finishing the weekend series with three out of a possible four points.

After a scoreless opening frame, the Falcons took control of the contest in the second period with three unanswered goals. Blake Parlett gave Springfield a 1-0 lead at the 2:35 mark, as he scooped up a loose puck in the slot and flipped it past Norfolk netminder Igor Bobkov. Michael Chaput made it a 2-0 game at 7:41, scoring on a wrist shot from the right-wing circle. The Springfield lead was extended to three at 14:52, as Cody Goloubef trailed an odd-man rush and ripped a wrist shot from the slot by Bobkov. Goloubef's fourth tally of the season was the eventual game-winning goal, his second of the season.

Despite allowing Norfolk to score two goals in the third period, scored by Emerson Etem and Joseph Cramarossa, the Falcons received an insurance goal from Andrew Joudrey at 5:19 and an empty-netter from Alex Aleardi with 1:12 remaining in regulation to seal the victory.

Springfield goaltender Mike Clemente made 21 saves on 23 shots faced, earning his first victory of the season and first AHL victory since March 17, 2012 when he shut out the Connecticut Whale at the XL Center in Hartford.

Bobkov stopped 18 of 22 shots faced in net for Norfolk, falling to 1-2-1 this season.

Jonathan Marchessault extended his point streak to four games with two assists in Saturday's contest. Marchessault has six points (three goals, three assists) over the four-game span and leads the team with 19 points this season.

The Falcons were unable to convert on the power play, coming up empty on four attempts with the man advantage. The team did successfully kill nine of the 10 Norfolk power-play opportunities, including a 5-on-3 man advantage for 47 seconds at the end of the second period.

With the win, Springfield has now earned at least a point in five consecutive games and in 13 of their last 14. The Falcons lead the Northeast Division with 39 points and maintain the best points percentage in the American Hockey League at .780.

The Falcons close out the current six-game road trip with tests at the Providence Bruins Friday, December 20 and at the Hartford Wolf Pack Saturday, December 21. The team returns to the MassMutual Center Thursday, December 26 to host the Adirondack Phantoms.
