IceHogs Down Barons in Shootout, 5-4

The Oklahoma City Barons rallied to tie the score late in the third period, but fell to the Rockford IceHogs, 5-4, in a shootout Saturday evening at the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford, Ill. Martin Marincin got the equalizer at 17:39 of the third period but Oklahoma City did not score a goal in the shootout as the IceHogs moved to 15-11-2-0 on the year. The Barons fell to 10-14-0-5.

Oklahoma City captured the lead in the first period as Will Acton scored his first goal as a Baron 1:41 into the game. Ryan Hamilton and Martin Gernat had the assists on the goal.

Philippe Lefebvre scored the equalizer at 6:57, and Joakim Nordstrom tallied the first of three Rockford power play goals at 10:51 to give the IceHogs a 2-1 lead. Roman Horak pulled Oklahoma City even late in the opening period with his seventh goal of the season at 19:25.

Rockford regained the lead 1:14 into the second period as Mark McNeill added a power play goal. Derek Nesbitt scored Oklahoma City's only power play goal at 11:25 to tie the game at 3-3. Ryan Hamilton and Brad Hunt had the assists on Nesbitt's seventh of the year.

Terry Broadhurst gave the IceHogs the lead at the 4:38 mark of the third period with the third power play goal by Rockford. Marincin's game-tying goal came at 17:30 with Ryan Martindale and Curtis Hamilton earning the assists.

After a scoreless overtime period, the Barons were unable to solve Rockford goaltender Mac Carruth in the shootout as Nordstrom, Brandon Pirri and Broadhurst all scored for the IceHogs to give Rockford the 5-4 win.

The Barons return home December 20-21 for a pair of games against the Texas Stars. Puck drops both nights at 7 p.m. CT. Friday night is Barons Night featuring $2 beer and $1 hot dogs. One fan will drive away in a 2013 Honda CR-Z on Saturday night.
