
P-Bruins Fall to Sharks in Overtime 3-2

Worcester, MA - The Providence Bruins fell to the Worcester Sharks 3-2 in overtime Saturday evening at the DCU Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Johnny Boychuk and Martin St. Pierre. The P-Bruins are back in action on Sunday at the Cumberland County Civic Center versus the Portland Pirates at 4:00 p.m.
The Sharks took the lead only 22 seconds into the opening period. Jamie McGinn scored from the left face off circle for his second goal of the season. Steven Zalewski and Kyle McLaren had the assists as the Sharks took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the third period, the Sharks took a two goal lead at the 2:25 mark of the third period. Riley Armstrong tallied his first goal of the season, with P.J. Fenton and Michael Wilson picking up the assists. The P-Bruins battled back in the third and pulled within a goal at the 13:54 mark, while on the power play. Matt Lashoff held the puck at the point and sent it to Martins Karsums halfway up the left boards. From there Boychuk picked the puck up at the left point, skated towards the circles and blasted a shot past Sharks goaltender and into the net for his second goal of the season. With time running out in regulation, the P-Bruins tied the game at the 19:37 mark. Boychuck took a shot and Greiss was there to make the save. The rebound went to St. Pierre waiting right outside the crease and scored to send the game into overtime. Mikko Lehtonen grabbed the second assist.
In overtime, time was running out when at the 4:40 mark, Ryan Vesce scored his first goal of the season to give the Sharks the 3-2 overtime victory. Kyle McLaren and Tom Cavanagh had the assists.
Tuukka Rask stopped 31 of 34 shots for the P-Bruins, while Thomas Greiss made 18 saves for the Sharks. The P-Bruins were 1-for-5 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins continue their six game road trip tomorrow against the Pirates at the Cumberland County Civic Center at 4:05 p.m. The P-Bruins return home to The Dunk Friday, November 7 versus the Chicago Wolves for Hat Night at 7:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins tickets can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at providencebruins.com.
