Iowa Chops News Release
Thanks to two 1st period goals from Andrew Ebbett and Joakim Lindstrom, the Iowa Chops jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Quad City Flames on Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Arena, 4-1. Iowa Chops goaltender David LeNeveu quietly put together a very strong start, winning his second game of the season making 17 saves in the process. The 1st period scoring woes were a thing of the past as Andrew Ebbett started the scoring just 1:06 seconds into the game, as he sliced in behind the defense thanks to passes from T.J. Trevelyan and Drew Miller. It was the first time this season the Iowa Chops had scored first in a game. The Chops wasted no time making it 2-0, as Joakim Lindstrom received a pass from Josh Green and sizzled one over the glove shoulder of Flames goaltender Leland Irving. Lindstrom's night would be cut short however soon after the goal, as he was whistled for a game misconduct for boarding. The Chops allowed a seaon-low three shots in the opening period. The 2nd period began with the Flames scoring on the power play. Chris Chucko smashed home a loose puck past LeNeveu on the side of the net to draw within one. But, the Chops came right back as Petteri Wirtanen streaked down the right wing and threw a shot to the net that went off a Flames defenseman and behind Irving to make it 3-1 in favor of Iowa. Francis Wathier and Brennan Evans assisted on the goal. The 3rd period was highlighted by Wathier's two fights, one with Ryan Wilson and the other with J.D. Watt. The Chops put the game out of reach with Troy Bodie's first goal of the season as he got a pass from Josh Green, skated in alone down the slot and fired a lazer over the glove of Irving. Bobby Ryan also assisted on the goal. The Chops moved to 3-2 on the season while the Flames fell to 1-3-1.
Three Stars of the Game:
1. Andrew Ebbett (IOW)
2. Francis Wathier (IOW)
3. Joakim Lindstrom (IOW)
