Canucks Send Wellwood To Manitoba

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced today they have assigned centre Kyle Wellwood to the Moose.

Wellwood, 25, has appeared in one game this season with the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 13/08 at Washington. The Windsor, ON native has played in 190 career games in the National Hockey League over six seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver. He has scored 108 points (31-77-108) and collected only 14 penalty minutes. In 156 career American Hockey League games with St. John's, Wellwood scored 142 points (58-84-177) and 26 penalty minutes. He scored two goals and two assists for the St. John's Maple Leafs when they faced the Moose in the 2005 Calder Cup Divisional Semi-Final. Wellwood was named to the AHL All-Star Classic in both 2004 and 2005.

He was originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs with their fifth choice, 134th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
