Norfolk Admirals News Release
HAMILTON, ON - Brandon Segal, Radek Smolenak and Paul Szczechura continued their scoring touch with two points apiece on Saturday night in Hamilton. However, the Norfolk Admirals (1-2-0-1) surrendered five goals in the third period as they fell to the Hamilton Bulldogs (4-0-0-0) 6-3 at the Copps Coliseum.
Matt D'Agostini gave Hamilton a 1-0 lead with a power play goal 11:59 into the opening frame.
The Admirals charged back with a 22-shot barrage on former Norfolk netminder Marc Denis in the second period. Segal tied the game at 1-1 with two minutes remaining in the period. Szczechura sent a short pass from the right corner to Segal at the right half-wall. Segal sent a quick snap shot over Denis' left shoulder at 18:00.
It took Norfolk just 13 seconds to take the lead after the tying tally. Brandon Bochenski made a steal and sent the puck to Smolenak in the slot. After Denis bought his forehand deke, Smolenak went top shelf with a backhander at 18:13 for a 2-1 Admirals lead.
D'Agostini tied the game at two goals apiece 2:02 into the final frame as he converted a two-on-one pass from Brock Trotter. Mike Glumac picked up the go-ahead goal by chipping in his own rebound at 5:57. Glumac scored what ended up being the game-deciding tally while prone on the ice near the top of the crease by stuffing a rebound past Admirals goaltender Karri Ramo. Yannick Weber tacked on a power play goal at 11:44 for a 5-2 Hamilton lead.
Segal cut the Admirals' deficit to two goals when his backhander from the slot beat Denis stick-side at 13:59.
However, Ryan Russell cemented Norfolk's fate with an empty-net goal at 18:45.
Karri Ramo (41 shots, 36 saves) got the loss. Marc Denis (42 shots, 39 saves) picked up the win.
Norfolk was 0-5 on the power play. Hamilton was 3-8.
