Manitoba Moose News Release

Manitoba followed up their first win of the season with a powerful performance in the rematch vs. Rochester, defeating the visiting Americans 4-1 at the MTS Centre. Matt Pettinger and Guillaume Desbiens extended their scoring streak to two-games while Michael Grabner netted his first of the season on Saturday night.

It only took nine seconds for the Moose to list their first penalty of the night with Jason Krog being fined for slashing. A collection of misdirected shots kept the shot count at one, letting the penalty expire with out too much pressure on Moose starter Cory Schneider.

At 5:09 the Moose were given their first man-advantage of the night when a hooking penalty was called on defenseman Michael Caruso. The home team wasn't able to capitalize with the extra help but had seven attempts on Amerks tender Chris Beckford-Tseu.

Back at even strength winger Kenndal McArdle slid a sly pass across Schneider's net allowing Tanner Glass to chip it in, putting their squad up by one.

Tempers flared as a collision between Raymond Sawada and Michael Duco erupted in the Amerks end resulting in five-minute majors for both players along with a two-minute penalty for instigating and a 10-minute misconduct against Duco.

At 19:12 veteran Matt Pettinger scored the first Moose goal of the night, extending his point streak to two games and closing the gap at the tail end of the first frame.

The second period showcased instant action from the Moose resulting in a goal within the first two-minutes. Michael Grabner netted his first of the season with help from Mark Cullen and Michel Ouellet putting the white in their first lead of the game, 2-1.

Proving to be a definite asset to the Moose line-up, Pettinger slammed his second of the night off of a rebound, widening the gap at 3-1.

Guillaume Desbiens was the seventh player to extend his point streak completing Pierre-Cedric Labrie's slap shot, ending the second up by three.

Both club's battled back and fourth for the first five-minutes of the third period. Zack FitzGerald was reprimanded for interference at 6:24, giving the visitors their sixth advantage. The two-minutes timed out and the Americans went 0/6 on the power play.

Back-to-back penalties for Rochester gave the Moose a two-man advantage in the latter half of the third. Doubling shots over the Amerks, the Moose couldn't trick Beckford-Tseu again and finished the game with a 4-1 victory.
