Amerks swept in Manitoba

(Rochester)... The Rochester Americans dropped their fifth straight game tonight with a 4-1 loss to the Manitoba Moose at the MTS Centre. The game was the second leg of a two-game set between the Amerks and Moose this weekend and the second of eight meetings between the two teams this season. The loss extends Rochester's losing streak to five games as the Amerks have yet to find a win in the 2008-09 American Hockey League season.

Manitoba used four consecutive goals, three coming in the second period, from Matt Pettinger (2), Michael Grabner and Guillaume Desbiens to take the two-game sweep over the visiting Amerks. Pierre-Cedric Labrie and Michel Ouellet each collected a pair of assists for the Moose.

Second-year netmidner Cory Schneider made 20 saves to record his second win in as many nights. Manitoba outshot Rochester 40-21 in the contest and 19-8 in the first period alone.

Tanner Glass provided the Amerks' lone goal as Chris Beckford-Tseu turned away 36 of 40 shots in the losing effort.

Glass opened the scoring in the contest with his second goal of the season at the 10:40 mark of the first period. Kenndal McArdle and Luke Beaverson were each credited with assists on the play.

Pettinger jumpstarted Manitoba's four-goal run with his second tally of the season with just 48 seconds left in the opening frame to tie the game at 1-1. Ouellet earned his first assist of the game on the play along with Labrie.

The Moose would explode with a three-goal second period with goals from Grabner, Pettinger and Desbiens to secure their second win of the season.

The Amerks return home on Friday, October 24th as the Quad City Flames make their only trip of the season to The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:35 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live. The game will be the first of two scheduled meetings between the two teams this season.

The game is part of scout night. All Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts along with their families and friends can purchase discounted tickets to see the Amerks take on the Flames. Tickets can be purchased at $10.00 - $12.00 depending on seating arrangements. There will also be a parade on the ice for all scouts during the first intermission.
