A rough start doomed the Flames on Saturday night in Des Moines. The Chops earned a 4-1 victory after jumping to a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Andrew Ebbett and Joakim Lindstrom. Kris Chucko scored the lone Flames goal as the team fell to 1-3-1-0 on the season.

The Chops grabbed a 2-0 lead on first period goals by Andrew Ebbett and Joakim Lindstrom. Ebbett snuck past the Flames defense and scored on a breakaway just 66 seconds into the game. Lindstrom followed with a goal in transition at 10:32 of the first period. Lindstrom was later ejected from the game after boarding Ryan Wilson late in the opening period.

In the middle frame, the Flames pulled to within one goal when Kris Chucko swatted in a Dan Ryder passing during a Quad City power play. The tally was Chucko's team leading third goal of the campaign. The Chops re-assumed their two goals advantage four minutes later when Petteri Wirtanen burst into the Quad City zone and sent a shot towards Leland Irving. The rookie netminder stopped the initial chance but Iowa's Troy Bodie converted on the rebound to give the Chops a 3-1 lead. Iowa held onto their two-goal lead through the second half of the period.

The lone third period goal was scored with 3:18 remaining as Troy Bodie beat Leland Irving for his first goal of the season.
