
P-Bruins Fall In Shootout To Moose 3-2

Winnipeg, MTB - The Providence Bruins fell to the Manitoba Moose 3-2 in a shootout Friday evening at the MTS Centre. The P-Bruins got their goals in regulation from Kirk MacDonald and Jeff Penner and in the shootout from Mikko Lehtonen. The first place P-Bruins continue their eight game road trip Saturday against the Moose at the MTS Centre at 8:30 p.m.
Providence took the 1-0 advantage at the 15:53 mark of the opening period. Wacey Rabbit sent the puck into the zone for MacDonald. He took a shot on goal from the right boards and the puck went off the post and into the net for his third goal of the season. The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Moose tied the game at one at the 18:16 mark of the second period. Michael Grabner tallied his 22nd goal of the season on a shot from just outside the crease to take advantage of a P-Bruins turnover. The game went into the second intermission tied at one.
Manitoba took its first lead of the game at the 7:48 mark of the third period, while on the power play. Grabner netted his second goal of the game and 23rd of the season, with Guillaume Desbiens and Jason Krog recording the assists. With time running out in regulation, the P-Bruins tied the game at two at the 19:39 mark. Penner put home a rebound off a shot from Rabbit for his eighth goal of the season. Lehtonen grabbed the second assist as the game went into overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, the P-Bruins scored first in the shootout on a goal by Lehtonen in the second round. Manitoba tied the shootout at one in round four on a goal from Desbiens, before take the shootout lead for good in round five on a goal from Jason Jaffray. Manitoba went on to the 3-2 shootout victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 24 of 26 shots in regulation and three of five shots in the shootout for the P-Bruins, while Cory Schneider made 31 saves in regulation and four saves in the shootout for the Moose. Â The P-Bruins were 0-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
After hitting the road for two more games, the P-Bruins return to the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday, March 13th against the Portland Pirates for St. Patty's Hat Night at 7:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins tickets can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at providencebruins.com.
