Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers close out their four-game series against the New Orleans Baby Cakes at 7:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark with fireworks scheduled to follow the game, presented by Oklahoma Blood Institute...The Dodgers lead the series, 2-1, and seek back-to-back home wins during the same home series for the first time this season as well as their second home series victory of the year.
Last Game: Jon Kemmer lashed a RBI double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning of his team debut to send the Dodgers to a 6-5 walk-off win against New Orleans Thursday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. With the game tied, 5-5, DJ Peters drew a walk with two outs in the ninth inning before Kemmer lined a double to the wall in right field allowing Peters to score for the team's second walk-off win of the season. New Orleans scored three runs between the fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Cameron Perkins lined a RBI single into left field and put the Dodgers on the board. The Baby Cakes loaded the bases with none out in the top of the sixth, but the OKC pitching staff limited them to just one run, putting the score at 4-1. The Dodgers then scored four runs in the bottom of the inning. Kemmer led off with a walk and scored via a RBI double by Angelo Mora. Jake Peter followed with a single before Errol Robinson's pinch-hit double to the wall in left field brought home Mora to cut New Orleans' lead to one run. With two outs, Joe grounded a spinning ball up the right field line for a double to bring home two runs and give the Dodgers the 5-4 lead. Yangervis Solarte got the run back for the Baby Cakes in the top of the seventh with a RBI single to tie the game. Kevin Quackenbush (2-2) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to notch the win, and Tyler Kinley (0-1) was charged with the loss.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Brock Stewart (2-5) looks to rebound from a loss in his last start when he takes the mound tonight...On June 21 against Memphis, Stewart allowed a season-high nine hits and six runs (four earned) over 5.1 innings, including a home run. He did not issue a walk for the first time this season, recorded five strikeouts and was charged with the loss in OKC's 14-7 defeat...Two starts ago June 15 in El Paso, Stewart had one of his best outings of the season and allowed three runs and eight hits over a season-high 5.2 innings. He had three strikeouts against one walk in OKC's 11-3 victory...Stewart was placed on the Injured List May 21-June 9 and returned to game action June 10 against Fresno...With runners in scoring position, he's hold opponents to a .224 average this season...Earlier this season, Stewart made his first career Major League Opening Day roster and appeared in three games for the LA Dodgers before being optioned to OKC April 7...Stewart was selected by the Dodgers in the sixth round of the 2014 MLB Draft from Illinois State University and was named the Dodgers' 2016 Branch Rickey Minor League Pitcher of the Year...Tonight is Stewart's second start of the season and sixth career start against New Orleans. He was charged with the loss May 3 at the Shrine on Airline, allowing four runs and seven hits over 4.0 innings with two walks and five strikeouts.
Against the Baby Cakes: 2019: 5-6 2018: 9-7 All-time: 183-160 At OKC: 97-73 The Dodgers and Baby Cakes meet for their third series this season, but first at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark...New Orleans took the last series between the teams May 21-24, 3-1. OKC won the series opener at the Shrine on Airline before New Orleans won the final three games of the set. The series marked the final time the teams will meet at the Shrine on Airline, as the New Orleans franchise is relocating to Wichita next season...So far the Baby Cakes have outscored the Dodgers, 73-48, while batting .303 and holding OKC to a .191 team average. The Dodgers have been held to one or no runs four times in 11 meetings, and they've also struck out 125 times for an average of 11.4 per game, with at least 10 strikeouts in nine of 11 games...OKC won the 2018 series between the teams, 9-7, and has now won four of the last five season series against the Baby Cakes...The Dodgers went 6-2 against New Orleans in OKC during the 2018 season, including a four-game series sweep April 13-16.
Welcome to OKC: Three newcomers to the Dodgers' lineup each made immediate impacts in the Dodgers' walk-off victory Thursday. Jon Kemmer joined OKC as a free agent and hit the game-winning RBI double in the ninth inning, drew a walk and scored a run in his team debut. Infielder Gavin Lux and outfielder DJ Peters, both ranked as Top-10 Dodgers prospects by MLB Pipeline, each made their Triple-A debuts. Lux finished the game 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Peters went 0-for-2 but reached base three times (2 BB, HBP) and scored the game-winning run...Kemmer, an outfielder in his seventh pro season, was playing for Generales de Durango in the Mexican League and put up an incredible .355/.454/.714 slashline with 21 homers and 49 RBI in 58 games. Prior to his promotion, the 21-year-old Lux ranked among the Texas League leaders in hits (81, 2nd), SLG (.541, 2nd), OPS (.896, 2nd), homers (13, 2nd) and batting average (.313, 5th). Peters was tied for sixth in the Texas League with 11 homers and tied for seventh with 42 RBI.
The Future's so Bright, They Gotta Wear Shades: The recently promoted Gavin Lux and Dustin May were both named to the 2019 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game earlier today. Lux and May will be part of the National League roster - along with current opponents Isan Diaz and Monté Harrison of New Orleans. The Futures Game will be played Sunday, July 7 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
I Came in Like a Rek-ing Ball: Zach Reks had Thursday off, but on Wednesday picked up a hit in a fifth straight game and has now hit safely in 17 of his last 18 games, batting .375 (30x80) with 11 multi-hit games, eight homers and 24 RBI. He has also hit safely in 21 of his last 22 starts, going 36-for-99 (.364) with nine home runs, six doubles and 29 RBI...Reks is tied for third in the PCL with nine home runs this month, while his 63 total bases rank tied for second in the league and his 26 RBI are tied for third...Reks leads all Dodgers minor leaguers with 20 total homers and 57 total RBI between OKC and Double-A Tulsa over 69 games. Between 2017-18, Reks hit just seven homers and tallied 52 RBI over 135 games.
For Pete's Sake: Jake Peter is 6-for-11 with four extra-base hits and three RBI over the first three games of the current series. He's strung three straight multi-hit games together for the first time in his OKC career and first time since Aug. 13-16, 2017 with Triple-A Charlotte in the White Sox organization...After slashing just .160/.331/.298 through the end of May, Peter has put up a solid .286/.375/.482 slashline in June. He's totaled 16 hits and seven extra-base hits this month after collecting just 15 hits and six extra-base hits between April and May combined.
Quack Attack: Recently named all-star Kevin Quackenbush worked a scoreless ninth inning last night to earn his second win...Over his last 17 outings, Quackenbush has allowed two runs and 13 hits, with three walks and 27 strikeouts over 16.2 innings. He enters tonight with scoreless appearances in 11 of his last 12 games, holding opponents to one run and 10 hits with 19 strikeouts over 12.2 innings.
Around the Horn: Including last night, the Dodgers have trailed by three or more runs in six of their 13 home wins this season...Yesterday Edwin RÃ-os became the sixth OKC Dodger to make his Major League debut this season, joining Matt Beaty, Kyle Garlick, Tony Gonsolin, Josh Sborz and Will Smith... Last night marked the fifth time this season, and first since May 28 at Omaha, that neither OKC or its opponent hit a home run in a game...OKC opponents have collected 36 extra-base hits in the last seven games and 48 extra-base hits in the last nine games...The Dodgers pitching staff did not issue a walk last night for the third time this season, with two instances against New Orleans.
