Round Rock Express News Release
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Round Rock Express (47-33) steamrolled the San Antonio Missions (50-31) in a lopsided 9-2 victory on Friday night at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium. Round Rock piled on 12 hits while holding San Antonio to just four to propel the victory.
Each team's starter earned a decision in the contest. E-Train LHP Cionel Pérez (2-1, 5.28) earned the win following a lights-out 5.2-inning start where he allowed only one run on three hits while fanning four. On the losing side, Missions RHP Zack Brown (2-5, 5.94) surrendered four runs, three of which were earned, on seven hits and three walks.
Express SS Josh Rojas drove in the game's first run before a hit was recorded. Rojas jumped aboard via a walk and stole second base prior to advancing to third and home on a pair of Missions wild pitches. However, San Antonio answered back with a run of their own as SS Mauricio Dubon led off the frame with triple prior to trotting home on a Trent Grisham ground out.
Round Rock pushed back with a three-run third inning to regain the lead. 2B Jack Mayfield worked a leadoff walk prior to a Kyle Tucker double to set up a two-run RBI single for DH Drew Ferguson. The runner advanced to second when 3B Alex De Goti singled then hustled to third on a Chas McCormick fielder's choice. A sacrifice fly off the bat of C Garrett Stubbs then plated Ferguson and extended Round Rock's lead to 4-1.
The teams exchanged a trio of scoreless innings until the E-Train offense exploded once again in the seventh. Ferguson smoked a two-run homer that also plated Mayfield, who previously drew a walk. Shortly thereafter, De Goti and 1B Nick Tanielu teamed up for a pair of singles prior to a McCormick no-doubter home run that scored a trio of runs and extended the E-Train lead to 9-1.
As a last-ditch effort, Grisham homered to cut the Missions deficit to 9-2, but a comeback was already far out of reach for the home team.
Round Rock returns to Dell Diamond on Saturday night to begin a five-game series against the Omaha Storm Chasers (Kansas City Royals affiliate). Storm Chasers LHP Jake Kalish (4-4, 3.88) is slated to start against an Express pitcher to be announced. First pitch at Dell Diamond is set for 7:05 p.m.
