Bees Fall to Aces
June 28, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Salt Lake Bees News Release
The Reno Aces used a hot start to hold off the Salt Lake Bees 10-6 on Thursday night.
Nick Tropeano (1-2) made the start for the Bees and was tagged with the loss after going four and two-thirds innings and allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out six batters.
Reno plated four runs on four hits in the first frame to get out to a quick 4-0 lead. Kaleb Cowart brought in the first two runs for Salt Lake with a RBI-double in the second inning and a solo home run in the fourth. Two at-bats following Cowart's home run, Roberto Pena drove in a run off a double to cut Reno's lead to 4-3. After the Aces scored two runs in the fifth, the Bees responded with two runs as Cowart came up big in the bottom of the frame when he hit his second home run of the night to cut the deficit back to one run. Adrian De Horta followed Tropeano and tossed three and one-thirds innings of relief, giving up one run on a solo shot in the sixth inning. Salt Lake loaded the bases in the eighth with one out, but only managed one run and Reno tacked on three in the ninth for insurance.
Leading the Bees offense was Kaleb Cowart, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two home runs and a double. The two-home run game for Cowart was his third multi-homer game of his professional career. With a double in the contest, Cowart became the fourth all-time leader in doubles in Salt Lake franchiser history passing Brian Raabe. After collecting a single in the fourth inning, Brennon Lund extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Lund, the former BYU baseball and Bingham High star is hitting .366 in June. The Bees bats finished with nine hits and nine walks, but went just 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position, leaving 12 on men on base.
The Bees wrap up their homestand on Friday night against the Aces. The Bees will host Utah Jazz night at the ballpark which includes 'City Edition' Bees jerseys on the field and a city edition cap giveaway to the first 2,000 fans first pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
