Baby Cakes Nip Dodgers, 9-7

Oklahoma City - The New Orleans Baby Cakes scored runs in each of the first six innings on the way to a 9-7 win against the Oklahoma City Dodgers Friday night as the teams wrapped up a four-game series at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Eight of the Baby Cakes' 11 hits went for extra bases Friday, including three home runs, as they split the series against the Dodgers (32-47), 2-2.

Isan Diaz quickly put New Orleans on the board with a solo homer in the first inning for a 1-0 lead.

Gavin Lux led off the bottom of the inning for Oklahoma City and hit a ground-rule double. Connor Joe followed and gave the Dodgers a 2-1 lead, hitting a two-run homer out to left-center field that landed in the Dodgers' bullpen.

New Orleans' Lewis Brinson led off the second inning and was hit by pitch. He stole second base and advanced to third base on a throwing error then scored on a RBI groundout by Deven Marrero to tie the game at 2-2.

Magneuris Sierra led off the third inning with a ground-rule double for New Orleans (44-37) and scored on a RBI triple by Austin Dean. Diaz then followed with a RBI single for a 4-2 New Orleans advantage.

The Dodgers tied the game in the bottom of the third inning, scoring two runs. Lux and Joe drew back-to-back walks to lead off. Later with one out, DJ Peters hit a fly ball to left field that landed for a RBI single to score both Lux and Joe and even the score, 4-4.

Peter O'Brien led off the fourth inning with a solo home run out to left field that sailed over the LED board to put the Baby Cakes in a 5-4 lead.

Diaz led off the fifth inning with a double before Brinson lined a two-run homer onto the Budweiser Deck in left field for a 7-4 Baby Cakes lead.

Back-to-back doubles by Shane Peterson and Peters in the bottom of the inning cut New Orleans' lead to 7-5. Peters finished the game with three hits, including two doubles, and a team-leading three RBI to pace the Dodgers.

In the sixth inning, Diaz hit a two-run double as he extended the Baby Cakes a 9-5 advantage. He finished the game 4-for-4 and reached base in all five of his plate appearances, drawing an intentional walk in the eighth inning. He finished a triple shy of the cycle as he racked up four RBI for New Orleans.

The Dodgers opened the bottom of the sixth inning with back-to-back doubles by Jake Peter and Angelo Mora, cutting New Orleans' lead to 9-6. Zach Reks followed with a RBI single to cut the Baby Cakes' lead to 9-7.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Joe was hit by pitch before two wild pitches by R.J. Alvarez allowed him to advance to third base with two outs with the tying run at the plate. Alvarez then struck out Peters to end the game.

Dodgers starting pitcher Brock Stewart (2-6) was charged with the loss, allowing seven runs and eight hits over 5.0 innings with one walk and four strikeouts.

New Orleans starting pitcher Robert Dugger (1-0) was credited with the win, allowing seven runs and 10 hits over 5.0 innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Alvarez pitched a scoreless and hitless ninth inning to record his 11th save of the season.

The Dodgers next travel for a four-game road series against the Nashville Sounds starting at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at First Tennessee Park.
