Kemmer Sends Dodgers to Walk-Off Win in Team Debut

Oklahoma City - Jon Kemmer hit a RBI double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning of his team debut with the Oklahoma City Dodgers to bring home the winning run in a 6-5 walk-off win against the New Orleans Baby Cakes Thursday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Kemmer, in his seventh professional season, was one of three newcomers to the Dodgers lineup Thursday and sent Oklahoma City to its second walk-off victory of the season.

The Dodgers trailed, 4-1, before scoring four runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-4 lead. A run by the Baby Cakes in the top of the seventh inning tied the game, 5-5.

DJ Peters drew a walk with two outs in the ninth inning before Kemmer followed and lined a double to the wall in right field allowing Peters to score the winning run for Oklahoma City (32-46).

Kemmer, an outfielder, signed with the Dodgers as a free agent this week, while outfielder Peters made his Triple-A debut Thursday, along with infielder Gavin Lux. Both Peters and Lux are top-10 Dodgers prospects as currently ranked by MLB Pipeline and were promoted to OKC from Double-A Tulsa Thursday.

New Orleans (43-37) took the game's first lead in the fourth inning when Yangervis Solarte connected on a sacrifice fly to put New Orleans in front, 1-0.

The Baby Cakes added two runs in the fifth inning. Tyler Heineman connected on a RBI double and Magneuris Sierra's RBI single with two outs later in the inning extended New Orleans' lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Lux hit a double to deep left-center field with one out for his third hit in as many at-bats for Oklahoma City. Connor Joe followed with a walk before Cameron Perkins lined a single into left field to score Lux and put the Dodgers on the board, 3-1.

The Baby Cakes loaded the bases in the top of the sixth inning as each of the first three batters of the inning reached on three straight singles. Dodgers pitcher Rob Zastryzny then got Heineman to hit into a double play. Eddy Alvarez followed with a two-out RBI single to extend New Orleans' lead to 4-1.

The Dodgers then scored four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Kemmer led off with a walk and scored via a RBI double by Angelo Mora to cut the Baby Cakes' lead to 4-2. Jake Peter followed with a single before Errol Robinson's pinch-hit double to the wall in left field brought home Mora to cut New Orleans' lead to one run. With two outs, Joe grounded a spinning ball up the right field line for a double to bring home two runs for Oklahoma City and give the Dodgers the 5-4 lead.

Solarte got a run back for the Baby Cakes in the top of the seventh inning with a RBI single to tie the game, 5-5.

Dodgers starting pitcher Zastryzny allowed a season-high 12 hits and four runs over 5.2 innings. Relievers Justin Grimm, Adam McCreery and Shea Spitzbarth combined to hold the Baby Cakes to one run before Kevin Quackenbush (2-2) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to notch the win.

New Orleans' pitcher Tyler Kinley (0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing the winning run, one hit, one walk and recording three strikeouts as the Baby Cakes outhit the Dodgers, 16-11.

Lux finished the game 3-for-5 at the plate with a team-leading three hits, including a double and also scored a run. Peters went 0-for-2 with two walks and scored the game-winning run.

The Dodgers now lead the series, 2-1, and wrap up their homestand as well as their current four-game series against the New Orleans Baby Cakes at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Fireworks are schedule to follow the game, presented by Oklahoma Blood Institute.
