Wings Stadium Complex Announces Upgrades to Facility

Kalamazoo, MI- Wings Stadium, which is also home to "The Annex" and "The Cube," announces two renovations to it's facility.

Drivers along I-94 may have already noticed the first change to the facility. Yesterday, workers started the process of changing the message center on the Wings Stadium I-94 marquee. The message center, which is already part of one of the most visible billboards on I-94 will be even more noticeable to drivers. Workers have installed a new LED message center, which will be linked to a new fiber optics and a new computer system.

The LED message center will be red and will include a super graphic studio, which will make all messages on the highway marquee even more noticeable to passing traffic.

The second change will occur inside Wings Stadium. For the past three months, the Wings Stadium Complex has had Acoustical Design Group, a consulting firm out of Mission, Kansas; visit the complex to review the arena's existing sound system.

Acoustical Design Group is the same organization, which designed the sound systems in both the Van Andel Arena (Grand Rapids, MI) and the newly renovated Memorial Coliseum (Fort Wayne, Indiana).

Based on their recommendations, the Wings Stadium Complex will be installing a state of the art sound system. The new system will be installed by ASCOM, a company specializing in sound engineering located in Grand Rapids.

After the system is installed guests of the stadium will notice a difference is sound quality. Currently, Wings Stadium has 14 speakers in its main stadium. After the renovations are complete the arena will be equipped with 51 speakers, as well as acoustical lapendary baffles covering approximately 15,000 square feet of ceiling that will drastically and noticeably improve everyone's experience at Wings Stadium.

Besides the speakers in the main stadium, there will also be speakers located within the stadium's concourse so guests will be able to hear safety announcements, as well as enjoy the K-Wings radio broadcasts while visiting one of the stadiums many concession stands. The sound system will also feature a 16 input mixing console, which will give the Wings Stadium Complex more audio features to help fans more enjoy their visits to the stadium.

The Wings Stadium Complex will also be installing a new assistive listening system that meets ADA requirements to accommodate those patrons that are hearing impaired.

"Both changes needed to be made to help increase the enjoyment level of our guest's experience," said Vice President and General Manager Paul L. Pickard. "Our facility is always looking for ways to help our guest have the ultimate experience and we feel these two changes will definitely enhance everyone's enjoyment."

Stadium Management Company owns both Wings Stadium Complex and the Kalamazoo Wings hockey team. Wings Stadium Complex is comprised of three buildings; Wings Stadium seats more than 5,100 fans for K-Wings home games and more than 8,000 people for concerts and other stage events. "The Annex" seats 1,367 for ice events and 2,850 for non-ice events such as car, boat, and trade shows. "The Cube" is the newer of the three facilities, that plays host to both ice and non-ice events. All three buildings are available for rental and feature numerous catering and meeting opportunities.
