Reading Royals News Release

READING , PA – The Reading Royals, the ECHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have announced the free agent signing of defenseman Aaron Gionet. Gionet suited up for the WHL's Kamloops Blazers for the past five seasons. He holds the franchise record for games played (324) and penalty minutes (933). The Tampa Bay Lightning drafted Gionet in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round.

"Aaron is a stay-at-home defenseman that possesses great size and strength. He put up solid numbers in the Western Hockey League so I am looking forward to seeing him in our line up," Royals coach Clancey commented.

Forward Matt Passfield was also added to the roster. Passfield had agreed to terms with the Royals nearly three weeks ago after being released from the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs training camp. He returned home to attend to a viral infection before arriving in Reading last weekend. He will wear sweater #35 while Gionet will wear #5. Both players are listed as probable to be in the line up when the Royals travel to Ohio this weekend for a pair of games with Toledo .
