Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors will play host to a pair of Pacific Division rivals this weekend, with San Diego making a return visit and the Idaho Steelheads come into town on Saturday. The Garden doors open at 6:00pm and the puck drops at 7:00pm both nights.

Friday night's game features the Gulls and Condors squaring off for the second time this season. The Condors will be looking to avenge their 1-0 loss last weekend at the hands of the Gulls. Everyone in attendance on Friday will receive a set of Condors Thunderstix, courtesy of KGET-TV 17, KRAB Radio and American Business Machines.

On Saturday night, the Steelheads come into town for Ken Baker Book Signing Night. The author and goaltender will be signing copies of his book "They Don't Play Hockey In Heaven," which is available now through Lyons Press, and on sale at the Condors Closet, the official retail outlet of the Condors. It will also be available at the game. Baker's book details his season with the Condors, in which he fought to renew his hockey skills, after they were torn down by a brain tumor that ravaged him through his college years. Baker was a member of the U.S. Olympic program and a scholarship winner at Colgate University. He spent the 2001-02 campaign with the team as a third string goaltender. Baker is currently the West Coast Editor of US Weekly Magazine.

Baker now also heads up the Pituitary Network Association, a patient-advocacy organization. He will be holding an auction featuring four items, the full amount of which will go to the PNA on Saturday night during the first intermission. Featured in the auction will be an autographed goalie stick, his blocker and glove, also autographed, and two packages including autographed copies of both of his critically acclaimed books, along with dinner with the author and a taping of the Tonight Show in Burbank with a VIP Tour given by Baker.

Participants in the Kern County Library summer reading program, "Readers of the Round Table," sponsored by the Condors and KGET-TV 17, obtained free tickets for both Friday and Saturday night by reading 10 books over the summer months. Students who participated in the T.H.I.N.K. program during the last month received a ticket good for Saturday's game. Turning Hockey Into New Knowledge, or T.H.I.N.K., is an incentive-based program for students in elementary and middle school that the Condors will hold all season long.

The Condors will be talking hockey on KGEO tonight, with "The Condors Coach's Show" live from the Holiday Inn Select. However, with tonight's Game Five match between the New York Yankees and Florida Marlins, the show has been moved up one hour, from 5:00-6:00pm. Join Head Coach Paul Kelly and the "Voice of the Condors" Kevin Bartl every Thursday night for the show, enjoy drink specials, meet the players, and win great Condors prizes. This week's guests include D Jonas Lennartsson and D Darren Shakotko.

Individual seats are on sale now, and may be purchased through the Centennial Garden box office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday. Tickets may also be purchased by phone through at 322-2525, online at www.ticketmaster.com or at any Ticketmaster location. Season tickets and group outings may be purchased by phoning the Condors office at 324-PUCK (7825), or stopping by the office in Centennial Garden next to the ticket windows.
