Countdown to Face-off Kalamazoo Wings @ Missouri River Otters Family Arena St. Charles, Missouri Friday, October 24, 2003 7:30 PM (CST)

Game Preview The K-Wings travel to St. Charles, Missouri, to open the 2003-04 season against the Missouri River Otters. The return the Missouri will be symbolic for the K-Wings. The game will mark the return to Missouri for new K-Wings Head Coach Mark Reeds. Reeds coached the River Otters for the past four years.

Kalamazoo is hoping to use its perfect 2-0-0 preseason as momentum as they head into Missouri. The story of the preseason was the K-Wings defense that average 23 shots against in their two-preseason games. Like last season, the K-Wings will be strong between the pipes as returning netminder Chad Alban and rookie goaltender Rob Anderson will give the K-Wings a lethal one-two punch.

Homecoming When the K-Wings start the season on Friday in Missouri they will be doing so in new K-Wings Head Coach Mark Reeds' former home. Reeds coached the River Otters for the past four years, plus played in St. Louis for the Blues. Stingy Defense After averaging over 33 shots against last year, the K-Wings are hoping the preseason is an indicator of how good their defense is this season. Kalamazoo averaged 23 shots against in the preseason.

Just Stay Healthy The biggest problem the K-Wings endured last season was injuries. During the 2002-03 season, Kalamazoo players missed 331 man games due to injuries, making them one of the most injured teams in minor league hockey.

He's Not My Linemate, He's My Brother For the second straight season the Kalamazoo Wings will have a set of brothers on their roster. Jim and Tim Turner, who are Saginaw, Michigan natives, will be on the opening night roster for Kalamazoo. This will not be the first time that the Turners have been on the same team, as both played for the UMASS-Amherst.
