Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City - The Utah Grizzlies came away with their first win of the season Wednesday with a 2-1 decision over the previously undefeated San Antonio Rampage at the E-Center.

Utah (1-3-1-1) played the first period much like they did in their last four games, scoring the first goal of the game. The score came off the stick of David Gove at the 17:30 mark, his first of the season. The Grizzlies held the 1-0 lead until 17:10 of the second period when Stephen Weiss of the Rampage intercepted a pass near the Grizzlies net and turned it into an unassisted goal.

In the third period both teams got off 10 shots. The game winner came from David Bararuk who found the net for the second time this season at the 8:34 mark. During the remainder of the period, the Grizzlies and Rampage traded offensive strikes but the Grizzlies held their ground and handed the Rampage their first loss. Grizzlies goaltender Mike Smith had 25 saves in the winning effort.

The Grizzlies will play two games on the road beginning with an October 26th meeting with the Grand Rapids Griffins who were recently assigned Curtis Joseph by the Detroit Red Wings. Face-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM (mst).
