Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - Colin McDonald scored twice as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers defeated the Norfolk Admirals 5-2 on Friday evening at Scope Arena.
Early in the contest, Bridgeport winger Colin McDonald slid into the slot and found the back of the net behind netminder Jason LaBarbera to give the Sound Tigers the lead. The unassisted goal came at the 7:06 mark of the first frame. Moments later, Norfolk responded. On only their second shot of the night, Louis Leblanc tapped home a rebound with helpers from Charlie Sarault and Antoine Laganiere to even the score at 1-1. The goal at the 12:22 mark came on the Admirals first power play opportunity of the night.
Once again on the man-advantage, Laganiere cashed in a pretty feed from Sarault to give the Admirals a 2-1 lead 17:26 into the first period. Josh Manson was also credited with an assist on the marker. Despite the lead, Norfolk only registered three shots in the opening 20 minutes.
Former Admiral Cory Conacher converted on a 2-on-1 break to make the score 2-2. Harry Zolnierczyk and Alan Quine got the helpers at 10:48 of the second period. Barely a minute later, Bridgeport took the lead courtesy of Ryan Pulock. The defenseman's goal at the 11:49 mark was assisted by McDonald and Kael Mouillierat, and the Sound Tigers would take a 3-2 lead into the locker room.
Just 1:24 into the final frame, McDonald scored his second goal of the night with a rocket over LaBarbera's shoulder. The goal made the score 4-2 Bridgeport with an assist credited to Mouillierat. Zolnierczyk added an empty netter with two seconds remaining as Bridgeport went on to win by a 5-2 final.
LaBarbera stopped 29 of 34 shots, while Leggio made 16 saves on 18 shots.
The Admirals went 2-for-6 on the power play, and the Sound Tigers went 1-for-3 with the man-advantage.
Norfolk hosts Bridgeport once again tomorrow night for a 7:15 p.m. start.
