Portland Pirates News Release

Portland, Me.- The Portland Pirates (14-14-1-0) lost to the Providence Bruins (15-11-2-0) by a score of 3-2 on Friday night at the Cross Insurance Arena. It was the first overtime loss of the season for the Pirates. Providence's David Pastrnak scored the 3-on-3 game winner with seconds waning in the period.

The Bruins put up the first goal of the night midway through the first frame when Alexander Khokhlachev scored, assisted by Jordan Caron and Pastrnak at 10:32. Portland's Lucas Lessio answered a minute later when he found the back of the net with some help from Joel Hanley and Greg Carey at 11:40.

The Pirates got the go-ahead goal at 12:24 in the second period on a Jordan Martinook score, assisted by Andrew Campbell and Dylan Reese. The lead didn't hold for long, though, and Matt Lindblad tied it back up for the Bruins at 17:37, assisted by Ben Youds and Ethan Werek.

The tie lasted through the final regulation period, and the teams went to overtime. There was a whistle three seconds after the four minute mark, so play was reduced to 3-on-3, the first time this season for the Pirates. Pastrnak scored the decisive game-ending goal at 6:31, assisted by Lindblad.

Goalies for both sides had great performances. Mike McKenna (9-11-1) stopped 29 of 32 Bruin shots, while Jeremy Smith (9-5-1) blocked 29 of 31 shots fired by the Pirates.

The Pirates are back at the Cross Insurance Arena for one more game before taking a small break for the holidays. They'll host the Worcester Sharks on Saturday, December 20 at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring their skates for the L.L. Bean community skate after the game. Holiday Packs are still on sale and make great gifts for every hockey fan in your life. Call 207-PIRATES for tickets and more information.
