Worcester Sharks News Release
Manchester, MA. - The Worcester Sharks (11-13-2-0, 24pts) began a 3-in-3 preholiday road weekend with a 4-1 loss to the red hot Manchester Monarchs (19-6-1-1, 40pts) in front of 3,564 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday evening.
Manchester had a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes as Jeremy Langlois scored the only goal for Worcester with 3:40 left in second period. Andy Andreoff scored his 2nd of the night with 34 seconds left in the second to put the game away for the Monarchs as Manchester improved to 4-0-0-0 against the Sharks. Troy Grosenick made 17 saves in net for Worcester while Patrik Bartosak made 27 saves for the Monarchs. Brian O'Neill picked up four assists and Vincent LoVerde also scored twice for Manchester.
Manchester charged out to a 3-0 lead in the first period on just eight shots on goal. Vincent LoVerde (3rd) gave the Monarchs a 1-0 edge at 5:44 with a power play goal and Andy Andreoff (4th) also connected on the man advantage at 13:05 to put the Sharks down 2-0. Vincent LoVerde (4th) struck again with a one-timer past Troy Grosenick from 12 feet at 18:25 to put Manchester ahead 3-0. Jimmy Bonneau (5th FM) fought Josh Gratton (9th FM) at 10:34 after Gratton checked Eriah Hayes into the Monarchs bench. Rookie Mark Bartosak made eight saves in the first period for Manchester while Troy Grosenick made five saves for Worcester.
Worcester got on the board with 3:20 remaining in the second period with a great score by Jeremy Langlois (5th) as he snuck behind the Manchester defense and had a nice finish past Patrik Bartosak to cut the Manchester lead to 3-1. After Evan Trupp had a rebound opportunity denied by a Monarchs defenseman skate in the crease, the Monarchs would strike again. Andy Andreoff (5th) fired a one-timer past Grosenick from the right circle after a terrific cross ice pass by Brian O'Neill at 19:27. The assist by O'Neill gave him four assists through 40 minutes as Worcester trailed 4-1 after 40 minutes despite outshooting the Monarchs 19-16.
Neither team found the back of the net in a rather uneventful third period as Worcester outshot Manchester 9-6. The Monarchs held on for their 10th win on home ice with the 4-1 victory.
The Sharks overall record drops to 11-13-2-0, 24pts, and 4-8-0-0, 8pts on the road this season.
