NAILERS WEEK IN REVIEW

January 15-January 22

Monday, January 15 Wheeling 2 @ Johnstown 1

Rich Colwill's goal late in the third period broke a one-one tie and earned Wheeling their seventh one-goal victory of the season. The Nailers held Johnstown to just 15 shots on goal, the lowest total they have held an opponent to this season. Joe Guenther opened the scoring with an unassisted goal 11:25 into the game. He caused a turnover behind the net and beat Morgan Cey with a wrap-around. It was his 18th goal of the season (tied for team lead with Jordan Cameron) and his fifth power-play goal. Johnstown would tie the game 2:50 before the end of the first on Andrew Martens second goal of the season. He banged home a rebound off a Zbynk Hrdel shot while the Chiefs were on the man-advantage. After a scoreless second period in which there were only a combined 12 shots on goal (seven for Wheeling and five for Johnstown), the third period began still tied at one. With just over five minutes remaining in the third, Colwill scored on a wrap-around after Jon Foster and Eric Sonnenberg peppered Cey with shots. The Nailers held the Chiefs to just two shots in the final period while Joe Jensen was credited with 10 out of the Nailers 26 total shots on goal.

Saturday, January 20 Wheeling 2 @ Trenton 4

Two third-period goals sank the Nailers hopes at a third straight win on Saturday night in New Jersey's capitol. Mike Pandolfo scored his ECHL leading 28th goal at 11:02 of the first to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. Mark Pandolfo scored just 2:01 later to give the Titans a two-goal cushion in the first. Wheeling would come storming back with a goal before the end of the period. Adam Edinger was left alone in front to slide the puck past Greg Naumenko for his second goal of the season and first since joining the Nailers from Long Beach. Jon Foster and Jordan Cameron were credited on the assists. The lone goal in the second period belonged to Wheeling's Ryan Moren. At the 7:29 mark, Jon Smyth fed the puck through traffic to a streaking Moren for the tap in. Joe Guenther was also given an assist. Both goals for each team had come on the power play. Two even-strength goals would decide it as Trenton scored just 3:16 into the third. John Laliberte's backhand roofed over Andy Franck and hit inside iron before jumping quickly out of the net. The red light went on and it took a conversation with the goal judge before it was officially ruled a goal. Mark Pandolfo would add the insurance with his second of the night at the 13:06 mark.
