January 22, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that forward Scott Mifsud has been reassigned to the team from the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League. In separate transactions, the Gladiators released Brad Fraser, Alex Sawruk and Scott Pearson.
On his first recall to the AHL, Mifsud appeared in the Sharks 3-1 win over the Lowell Devils on Friday night. He did not register a point while with Worcester.
Mifsud currently ranks second on the Gladiators with 59 points while ranking second overall in the ECHL behind teammate Brad Schell. He has recorded 14 goals and 45 assists for Gwinnett in 38 games this season.
The Burlington, Ontario native scored two of the biggest goals during the Gladiators 2006 Kelly Cup Playoff run last year. He capped the Gladiators 3-goal come-from-behind 5-4 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays in Game 2 of the Division Semi-Finals. Mifsud also collected the overtime game winning goal in Game 5 of the Conference Finals in Toledo to beat the Storm 3-2 sending the Gladiators to the Kelly Cup Finals.
In one game with the Gladiators, Pearson did not register a point with Gwinnett. Sawruk and Fraser were also held scoreless for the Gladiators. Sawruk appeared in two games while Fraser skated in just one game for Gwinnett over the weekend.
Mifsud should be available for the Gladiators for Friday's 7:30 p.m. tilt at the Germain Arena in Estero, Florida against the Florida Everblades.
The Gwinnett Gladiators continue their fourth season as a proud member of the ECHL on January 26th as they travel to Florida to take on the Everblades at 7:30 p.m. Season tickets are on sale now. In addition, the Gladiators offer several unique multi-game ticket packages as well as discounted group rates, suite rentals, and birthday parties.
